Westbound is new bar counter and lounge room located at the site of the original 1893 Santa Fe Railroad’s La Grande Station. Its owner had a vision of a European guest friendly lounge that serves great cocktails and tapas style foods in the thriving arts district of downtown Los Angeles.
Southern California Restaurant Design Group was the first kitchen design company the client met with on site. We took this time to meet with the owner to better understand her vision and the needs of the food preparation and serving areas. We were also able to review the lease with the owner and identify several key foodservice requirements that were vital to the signing of the lease.
SCRDG was responsible for the full design and code adherent plans for the food and beverage service. One of the owner’s visions was a European style bar in which the underbar is taller than is standard in the US. This is to maintain a personal feel between the bartender and patrons and was a key feature for the owner. Other firms claimed it wasn’t possible but SCRDG took the time to listen and understand the vision of the client and through creative thinking made it happen.
Westbound opened in May 2016 and has been well received. It is already famous for a few of its menu offerings.
