Zankou Chicken

Zankou is a Los Angeles favorite for over 40 years, their signature rotisserie chicken and garlic sauce are customer favorites. SCRDG’s worked with Zankou with a goal to give the long term brand a new way to assemble their plates that allowed for no crossover between the cooks line to the service side of the line. The team accomplished this by designing a center island chefs counter with multiple pass areas for each menu category. We also designed an open area preparation station that can be used on all four sides to cut down the labor in producing Zankou’s signature Kabobs and other chicken dishes.

The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern

A generations old destination, made famous by cult classic Sideways, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern dates back to 1886, when a Swiss immigrant named Felix Mattei built the tavern as the primary stagecoach stop between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Always a community hub, the 19th-century water tower still serves as a landmark. Southern California Restaurant Design Group got involved with this project with a goal of reducing the overall cost of the kitchen and bar while still maintaining top quality equipment. Leaning on their relationships, SCRDG was able to source equipment and adjust the design to fit the project’s budget. After a Covid-related pause, in 2022 SCRDG resumed work, being diligent to maintain the historical building’s structure and finishes. In addition to The Tavern, SCRDG was excited to support the property’s three new venues. The Barn is a full catering kitchen with an employee lounge in the basement. The Shed is an outdoor pool bar with full food service. And Gin’s Tap Bar is an outdoor space for dining and private events featuring a brass 14-faucet beer tap showcasing local beers.

Account Executive, Mike Johnson teamed up with Starbird Chicken’s construction team to open the concept’s first Southern California location. SCRDG procured all equipment and managed the installation of it. The team also coordinated final walk-thrus, last minute vendor relations, and assured the team was ready for final inspections and able to open on schedule.

Wagon Wheel Brewing Co.

Southern California Restaurant Design Group was excited to assist Oakwood Communities, Inc. in their development of the new Wagon Wheel Brewing Co. in Oxnard, California. The SCRDG team procured all the foodservice equipment and handled the installation, start up and project management for the new concept. Director Scott Lang and his team were were also able to adhere to the tight budget by bringing value engineering expertise to the project. The team was also proud to procure all equipment and install within the owner’s timeline.

Southern California Restaurant Design Group partnered with Built Inc. Construction to develop Vandelay Hospitality Group’s new project in West Hollywood – Drake’s. The SCRDG team handled startup, project management and procurement of all the foodservice equipment, walk-in coolers, exhaust hoods and management of the installation including refrigeration, ductwork and exhaust/MAU fans. Additionally, SCRDG was able to provide cost and time- saving alternatives on some of the specified equipment allowing all procurement and installation to be completed on time.

MelrosePlace

With an iconic name and address, MelrosePlace is a restaurant and rooftop lounge with panoramic views of LA. This was an interesting project for SCRDG’s team as the space is a compact, three-story building. Additionally, with an extensive menu, the chef needed a variety of equipment including a combi-oven, broiler, open burners, fryers and a “mise en place line” to handle the many accoutrements. Account Executive, Robert Read, was able to source and oversee installation of all equipment, maximizing kitchen efficiency. The team was also able to design the indoor bar utilizing existing decor elements and create a portable bar area on the rooftop, perfect for summer nights.
